Sharing internet between windows and linux

While sharing internet connections between windows is quite easy for normal users because most of time all settings are done by windows itself i.e. Network setup wizard or creating new connection. But if you are sharing internet connection between Linux and windows you need to know the technical details of IP Address, Default Gateway, and DNS server. I have faced the same problem yesterday and after a lot of research and talking to friends I finally get it done.

Requirements:
An Internet connection
A LAN network

Steps 1 - Configuring machine which connect to internet connection (I have on windows):

A) In my case I have broadband connection (connected to LAN). Most of the case this will be configured by your Internet provider. Important points to know are:

1.1 Control panel -> network connections
1.2 Properties of your internet connection
1.3 Click on Internet Protocol -> Properties
1.4 Note down the IP address, Default gateway, DNS servers (mine are 192.168.1.22, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.1)
1.5 Control panel -> network connections -> advanced tab -> Internet Connection sharing - Check the checkbox below it and click ok to save settings.
That’s done with internet connection

Now create a LAN network:
2.1 Installing network card
2.2 Control panel -> LAN connection -> Properties -> Internet Protocol -> Properties
2.3 Give an IP address for your machine of LAN (mine is 192.168.0.1), Give DNS server which we have note down from Internet connection properties (mine is 192.168.1.1)
2.4 Click OK to save

B) Configure Linux network card
1. Menu -> System Settings -> Network
2. In Devices tab there is list of all network cards. Click on which you want to connect LAN
2.1 Give IP address as per your LAN (mine is 192.168.0.2)
2.3 Subnet Mask (mine is 255.255.255.0)
2.4 Default Gateway - IP of Windows LAN connection card (mine is 192.168.0.1)
3. In DNS tab give DNS servers as IP of windows LAN connection card (mine is 192.168.0.1)

That’s it!
